On Thursday, 23.09.2021, during the Art Basel , the Pax Art Awards will be presented for the fourth time. With the art prizes for digital art, the Art Foundation Pax awarded, in cooperation with the HeK, awards media-specific practices to Swiss artists whose works use media technologies or reflect their effects. The award ceremony takes place as part of an event in the HeK.

Staged as a real-time 3D generated performance, «Cyberia» by Maria Guta and Adrian Ganea blurs the line between magical, digital and physical environments. Cyberia invites the audience on a journey into the realm of glowing cold, far eastern nature and imaginary landscapes. The performance serves as a meeting space between human and technological avatars, as well as between the physical and imaginative spheres.

The exhibition Swiss presents works by the winners of the Pax Art Awards 2020, on view in three parallel solo exhibitions. The artists could produce new works, which are presented to the public for the first time, thanks to the support from the Pax Art Awards.

The Swiss Media Art exhibition: Studer/van den Berg, Maria Guta, Simone C Niquille presents works by the winners of the Pax Art Awards 2020. The three artists are each presented in solo exhibitions that can be viewed in parallel. What unites them is that they all raise current issues from different perspectives on society and technology and explore possible connections and developments. Thanks to support from the Pax Art Awards, the artists were able to produce new works that will be presented to the public for the first time.
Performance «Cyberia» by the artists Maria Guta & Adrian Ganea
On the 13th and 14th of November 2020 there will be a dance performance as part of the exhibition «Real Feelings» at the HeK Basel, during which a dancer will encounter an avatar. Maria Guta received one of the Young Talent Awards of the Pax Art Awards 2020. In her work, Maria Guta explores the possibilities and the limitations of photography, performance, installation and Social Media. With subtle humor, she creates precise insights into the mechanisms of self-representation.more

Every Sunday from 15:00–16:00 there is an introductory tour through the current exhibition «Real Feelings», which also includes works from the Pax Art Awards 2020 winners Maria Guta and Simone C. Niquille.
Happy Sunday takes place on 04.10. and 01.11., granting free entry to the exhibition. more

The exhibition Swiss Media Art: knowbotiq, Alan Bogana, Félicien Goguey presents works by the winners of the Pax Art Awards 2019 comprised in three parallel solo shows at HeK. From the artist duo knowbotiq’s postcolonial fabulations through Félicien Goguey’s exploration of mobile phone networks and surveillance systems to Alan Bogana’s poetic and conceptual installations related to our perception of light, the three Swiss artists explore themes as diverse as they are relevant to our understanding of current dynamics in the evolution of technology and their impact on society. The Pax Art Awards were first presented during Art Basel 2018. The prizes are dedicated to Swiss media artists whose works use media technologies or reflect on their effects. Half of the prize money is allocated to purchase a work for the Art Foundation Pax collection, the other half supports the recipient artists in developing new work, which is then shown as part of a comprehensive exhibition in the spring of the following year.
The Art Foundation Pax is an independent foundation for the promotion of digital and media-based art in Switzerland and is financially supported by Pax. With the Pax Art Awards, ground-breaking prizes for digital art, the Art Foundation Pax in collaboration with HeK, honours and promotes media-specific practices of Swiss artists whose works use media technologies or reflect on their effects.
Until the ban on assembly is lifted, we are happy to book guided tours for small groups, with a maximum of 4 visitors. We also offer public guided tours on Sundays at 2:30 pm, 3:00 pm, 3:30 pm and 4:00 pm. Further offers such as guided curatorial tours, Family Sundays, holiday pass offers or the special guided tours HeK+ Werkbetrachtungen will be announced on hek.ch and social media channels. Our diverse online educational offers will be continued.
